The new Federal Minister of the Interior, Mr. Alexander Dobrindt, was appointed on 6 May 2025. The new Federal Minister of the Interior started his official duties at the Federal Ministry of the Interior on 7 May 2025.
Parliamentary State Secretaries Daniela Ludwig and Christoph de Vries will support him in his broad range of policy tasks. At his first official act, the new Federal Minister of the Interior instructed the Federal Police to tighten border controls at the internal borders.
Some of the previous responsibilities of the Federal Ministry of the Interior will be taken over by other ministries, e.g. the Federal Ministry for digital affairs and state modernisation (Bundesministerium fur Digitales und Staatsmodernisierung) taking over previous tasks from the area of digital administration.
