As of 24 June 2025, the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Public Security has decided to suspend the processing of asylum applications from Syrian nationals and stateless persons from Syria for up to 6 months, until 24 December 2025.

The decision follows earlier steps taken by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) on 9 December 2024 to pause such applications due to the uncertain situation in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime. The ministry cites emerging signs of potential improvement in the country's conditions as the reason for the formal suspension
