The IND announced that the Dutch list of safe countries of origin needs to be shortened following the judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on 1 August 2025, which ruled that exceptions for categories of persons are not permitted when designating a safe country of origin.

According to an information notice on the IND’s website, the following countries must be removed from the list: Armenia, Brazil, Ghana, Jamaica, Morocco, Senegal, Serbia and Tunisia. Applications from these countries can no longer be processed under the accelerated procedure corresponding to Track 2 and cannot be declared manifestly unfounded on grounds of a safe country of origin.
