Bulgaria is ready to apply the Pact requirements, according to SAR’s Chairperson

The Chairperson of the State Agency for Refugees under the Council of Ministers (SAR), Mr Ivan Ivanov, stated that the agency is ready to implement the requirements of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, which entered into force on 12 June 2026. He underlined that the Pact introduces the mandatory border procedure, which constitutes a novelty for the Bulgarian asylum system.

SAR informed that it developed, in close cooperation with the EUAA, a Roadmap for the Implementation of the Reception Conditions Directive and adopted instructions for the implementation of the regulations related to the procedures for granting international protection, the management of asylum and migration and the standards for granting international protection.

To implement the new Eurodac Regulation, SAR works closely with the Border Police Directorate General, the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and their European partner services - Europol and Frontex.
