The State Agency for Refugees under the Council of Ministries discussed with representatives of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) about their partnership in the management of safe zones for unaccompanied refugee children. While the Ministry of the Interior is the managing authority for projects funded under the AMIF programme, SAR representatives discussed the possibility of taking over the management of the safe zones located in the in the registration and reception centers in "Ovcha Kupel", "Voenna Rampa", and Harmanli. This is also because AMIF funding can be provided for the maintenance and operation of all three safe zones.
SAR’s chairman Ivan Ivanov emphasised that IOM remains an extremely important partner with whom they will continue to cooperate for the safe zones. Thus, SAR and IOM will continue discussions on joint changes for the way these safe zones are functioning, and these changes will be duly reflected in the projects implemented with EU funding.
