ECRE has published the 2025 update to its country report on Croatia. The report updates statistical and qualitative information on asylum and temporary protection, including data on applications, reception, Dublin transfers, and access to the asylum procedure. Statistical information mirrors the one provided by the Ministry of the Interior.
In 2025, Croatia registered 14,928 applications for international protection, down from 26,776 in 2024. A total of 3,532 new applications for temporary protection were submitted, with 3,181 positive decisions. The update also records 1,364 incoming and 28 outgoing Dublin transfers.
Regarding pushbacks, the Ombudsperson reported a reduction in complaints concerning pushbacks, as well as complaints relating to a lack of access to the asylum procedure while in detention.
In terms of reception, 9,842 applicants were accommodated in Croatia in 2025, with stays generally being short-term, the update notes. It also refers to concerns raised by the Ombudsperson regarding reception conditions, including complaints about poor sanitary conditions, inadequate water supply and food, as well as the general lack of access for most CSOs to reception centres.
