Minister of Justice and Public Security participates in informal JHA meeting on the situation in Ceuta
On 4 August 2026, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Astri Aas-Hansen, participated in an EU meeting on the situation in Ceuta. The minister expressed support for Spain and acknowledged its efforts in managing the situation. She stressed the importance of understanding the factors that contributed to the mass movement of people in order to strengthen Europe’s capacity to prevent similar situations in the future. The role of social media in facilitating mass migration was also highlighted during the meeting.
European countries emphasised that well-functioning Schengen cooperation and effective external border controls are essential to maintaining control over migration in Europe.
