The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) announced a reduction in asylum reception capacity following lower-than-expected numbers of asylum applicants during the summer, while municipalities have continued to settle a high number of people granted residence permits. To align capacity with current needs, the UDI will reduce capacity by 550 places across 22 asylum reception centres (25 places per centre) rather than closing entire facilities. The reductions will take effect on 9 October 2026, following the 3-month contractual notice period. Below is an overview of the various reception centres and capacity after the reduction:
