In a press statement by the Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reforms, the Government announced that more than 300 public officials and 400 police officers were trained by the Human Rights Directorate on combatting racism, xenophobia and exclusion. The Parliamentary Secretary stated that the Government is addressing this social problem and is ensuring that those who work in the public sector are sensitive and able to respond in a professional manner in cases of discrimination.
Research conducted by the National Commission on the Promotion of Equality (NCPE) showed that there is a prevalence of discrimination amongst persons of African descent and Muslim minorities in Malta, in particular in the areas of employment, education, services and accommodation.
