In October 2025, Switzerland recorded 2,643 new asylum applications, a slight increase of 72 compared to September but still 2,039 fewer than during the same period in 2024. Of these applications, 2,239 were primary requests and 404 secondary ones. Primary applications rose by 4.7% from the previous month but were 0.6% lower than in October 2024.
Afghanistan remained the top country of origin with 684 applications, followed by Eritrea (319), Somalia (317), Algeria (204), and Turkey (187). Overall, asylum requests for the first ten months of 2025 decreased by 8.7% year-on-year, amounting to 21,520 compared to 23,559 in 2024.
The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) processed 2,693 cases in October, granting asylum in 574 of them. A total of 977 people without residence rights left Switzerland under official supervision: 614 voluntarily and 363 through enforced removals. Additionally, there were 754 uncontrolled departures. At the end of October, 5,369 individuals were receiving return-assistance support.
