Spain welcomes 41 refugees as part of the 2026 National Resettlement Programme

Spain welcomed 41 Nicaraguan refugees from Costa Rica as part of the 2026 National Resettlement Programme.

The State Secretariat for Migration coordinated the transfer with the support of 13 organisations and institutions, including the border police, the Guardia Civil, UNHCR, Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) and several civil society organisations.

Refugees who arrived in Madrid are part of the selection mission that the State Secretariat for Migration carried out in April 2026 in coordination with the IOM and the Office of Asylum and Refugees (OAR). This arrival constitutes the fourth transfer of this mission.
