The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and the Norwegian Appeals Board (UNE) lifted the suspension of the duty to return to Lebanon from 18 September 2026. This means that people with a final decision with a duty to return to Lebanon are now obliged to leave Norway.
UDI and UNE will resume processing cases with a return assessment to Lebanon that have been put on hold.
Both UDI and UNE consider that the security situation in Lebanon remains serious. However, it is not as dramatic as in March 2026, when they decided to temporarily suspend the duty to return.
If, however, there are persons from Lebanon in Norway with a final rejection and a duty to return who believe they cannot return to their place of origin, they can ask UNE for a new assessment (request for reversal).
