The King in Council appoints new UNE board chairs

Five new board chairs were appointed to the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) by the King in Council. Board chairs play a key role in handling appeals: they may decide cases themselves after preparation by the UNE secretariat or refer cases to a board meeting with two independent members. The position requires judicial qualifications and carries responsibilities similar to those of a judge. Board chairs act as independent decision-makers and cannot be instructed by UNE management.
