Malta and Italy reaffirm cooperation on migration and security

Malta's and Italy's home affairs ministers met to reinforce bilateral cooperation on migration, security, law enforcement and civil protection. They highlighted reduced irregular arrivals in the Central Mediterranean through joint efforts and discussed Pact implementation, the strengthening of return systems, enhanced cooperation with key countries of origin and transit, and the development of solutions to tackle irregular migration more effectively, such as cooperation with the Libyan authorities and establishment of return hubs. The meeting also covered law enforcement collaboration against organised crime and drug trafficking, as well as emergency preparedness and civil protection cooperation.
