Germany and the Netherlands discuss cooperation for faster removals and border controls

The German Minister of the Interior, Alexander Dobrindt, and the Dutch Minister for Migration and Asylum, Bart van den Brink, agreed during a joint meeting in Berlin on 26 March 2026 to significantly speed up removals and substantially expand cooperation between their security agencies along the shared border.

Return hubs would play a key role and both Germany and the Netherlands wish to cooperate more closely on this, e.g. by engaging with third countries and in the diplomatic implementation of these measures.

In addition, the Netherlands and Germany are examining how cooperation on border controls can be further strengthened, so that effective enforcement is ensured while minimising the impact on cross-border traffic.
