The Ministry of the Interior announced that a working group explored introducing a citizenship test as a requirement to acquire Finnish citizenship. The final report proposes to introduce this test, which would tighten the conditions to acquire citizenship, by reforming the Citizenship Act.
The aim is also to tighten the rules on the integrity requirement, the requirement for sufficient financial resources and the loss of citizenship.
The period of residence was extended since 1 October 2024 from 5 years to 8 years, and only the time lived in Finland will be taken into account.
