FIS provides updates on the backlog in processing family reunification applications

Go back to the Recent Developments Timeline

The Finnish Immigration Service informed that there are backlogs in the processing of applications for family reunification, with 18,200 pending applications. Most applications are decided within 4 months. To date, more than 37,000 decisions were issued in 2025.

The reasons for delays include requiring additional information or documents (such as DNA test results), an interview or because a decision has not been issued on the sponsor’s residence permit application.
