European Commission publishes a first assessment of the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum

The European Commission published its first assessment of the implementation of the new asylum responsibility rules under the Pact on Migration and Asylum, covering the period from 12 June to early July 2026. The assessment indicates that Member States under migratory pressure have made significant progress in preparing and applying the new framework.

Operational cooperation in Cyprus and Spain was found to be adequate, while Greece has begun addressing previous shortcomings and Italy has taken important preparatory measures. However, further efforts are needed to ensure the effective execution of transfers.

The Commission will continue monitoring implementation and will issue a follow-up assessment in October, while supporting Member States in the application of the Pact.
