On 9 July 2026, the European Union Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Estonia (Riigikogu) endorsed Estonia’s position in favour of extending temporary protection for Ukrainian nationals until March 2028. The proposed extension excludes individuals who are subject to restrictions on leaving Ukraine due to military obligations. The government’s position on the proposed extension was presented by Minister of the Interior, Igor Taro.
