Core group of ministers meet to advance plans for EU external return hubs for rejected asylum seekers

Denmark’s Immigration and Integration Minister met with his counterparts from five countries in Munich on 26 September 2026 to advance plans for establishing return centres for rejected asylum seekers outside the EU.

Following their meeting in Copenhagen earlier in September 2026, the group discussed concrete proposals and engaged with potential partner countries. The initiative aims to establish a system that complies with international obligations and protects human rights.

The minister emphasised that the scheme is a government priority, arguing that it would help address irregular migration and discourage illegal entry into the EU.
