Bulgarian and German national determining authorities exchange on the implementation of the Pact

Ivan Ivanov, the Chairman of the State Agency for Refugees under the Council of Ministers (SAR) invited Dr. Hans-Eckhard Sommer, the President of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) to visit Bulgaria. The working visit last two days during which they exchanged on experiences related to the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum. BAMF’s president shared that, despite having adopted a legislative framework, the biggest challenge in Germany is the implementation of the new border procedure and the provision of legal assistance to asylum applicants. 

In Bulgaria, the legislative process for adopting a new law was delayed due to the changes of the government, but the SAR adopted internal rules and procedures to ensure the implementation of the Pact requirements.
