The Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion registers the lowest number of Ukrainian refugees

Nearly 85,000 Ukrainian refugees are living in Norwegian municipalities, with 6,425 resettled in the first half of the year, the lowest number since Russia's full-scale invasion began. The decline is attributed to austerity measures aimed at reducing arrivals to a sustainable level, allowing municipalities to better manage housing and services. Despite fewer arrivals, the government expects to resettle 12,640 refugees in 2025.

Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion Tonje Brenna praised municipalities for their continued efforts, especially smaller ones like Hjartdal, Fyllesdal, Gjemnes, Bokn, and Rollag, which have accepted many refugees relative to their population. The counties of Trondelag, Vestland, and Rogaland have resettled the highest numbers overall. IMDi director Libe Rieber-Mohn emphasised the ongoing need to prioritise the swift resettlement of unaccompanied minors and individuals requiring health-related support, despite the overall decrease in resettlement needs.
