CELPL conducts first visit to the Screening Centre
The Contrôle externe des lieux privatifs de liberté (CELPL) was designated as the independent body responsible for monitoring the Screening Centre. It conducted its first visit to the centre on 15 June 2026.
As a temporary measure, the centre operates on the premises of the Directorate-General for Immigration. This arrangement will remain in place until the planned facility on rue Bender becomes operational. The opening of the open centre is expected in early 2027.
The CELPL noted that the Screening Centre was not yet fully operational in accordance with the requirements of the legal framework. In particular, the premises were considered insufficient to meet the operational requirements laid down by law. Additionally, the health screening required under the screening procedure has not yet been implemented, as the Ministry of Health and Social Security is still recruiting the necessary personnel.
