On 12 January 2026, the Danish Refugee Appeals Board's Coordination Committee suspended the processing of cases involving Iranian nationals due to recent developments and the highly uncertain situation in Iran. The committee also postponed departure deadlines for individuals subject to deportation to Iran when the board upheld decisions refusing asylum under Section 7 of the Aliens Act, as well as decisions concerning the withdrawal, non-extension or lapse of residence permits.
Based on current information on the situation in Iran, the Refugee Appeals Board concluded that there was no longer sufficient grounds to maintain the suspension. This decision affects approximately 60 individual cases.
The board also lifted the postponement of departure deadlines for individuals to be deported to Iran whose asylum applications under Section 7 of the Aliens Act were rejected or whose residence permits were withdrawn, not extended or deemed to have lapsed. In addition, the board will resume the processing of requests for case reopening. This decision affects approximately 108 individual cases.
According to information published by the Danish Immigration Service, the Service expects to start summoning persons from Iran to asylum interviews during the first quarter of 2027.
