The State Agency for Refugees under the Council of Ministers (SAR) launched a project to modernise the registration and reception centers in Harmanli and Sofia, and the transit center in Pastrogor, in the Haskovo region. The project is funded under the AMIF programme 2021-2027 and is aimed at ensuring both adequate living conditions for applicants for international protection and adequate reception capacity in case of a possible migration pressure.
The SAR’s chairman emphasised the role of the project in achieving the necessary reception capacity, noting that the reception capacity was drastically reduced from 5,350 places in 2022 to 1,650 places in 2025.
The project’s activities include repairs, reconstruction and modernisation of the reception facilities located in the town of Harmanli, the city of Sofia and the village of Pastrogor. Along with improving safety of premises, hygiene and living conditions, the implementation of the project will support the effective implementation of the CEAS and the objectives of the Pact on Migration and Asylum.
