The Greek Forum of Migrant, a network of more than 40 migrant organizations and communities in Greece, offered its comments on the draft law on migration, which was published by the Greek government for consultation in July 2025. The Forum’s announcement covers the following points:

  • Criminalisation of irregular residence;
  • Abolition of the article on ‘exceptional reasons’, according to which certain third country nationals could apply for a residence permit under “exceptional reasons,” which served as a safety net for people with proven roots and continuous presence in the country;
  • Prolonged administrative detention;
  • Safe Third Countries and Return Procedures;
  • Lack of integration policies.
