Federal Councillor Beat Jans visited Egypt from 14 to 16 November 2025, where he signed two bilateral migration agreements with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. The first agreement aims to strengthen cooperation on legal migration, combating human trafficking, readmission procedures, and voluntary returns, while also supporting Egypt as a major refugee-hosting country. The second agreement introduces visa exemptions for diplomats. During his visit, Jans also toured several migration-related projects near Cairo.

Swiss-supported projects in Egypt focus on protecting vulnerable populations and addressing root causes of irregular migration. Switzerland contributes to the East African Migration Routes Project (EAMRP), which assists around 15,000 minors. Jans visited the UNHCR registration center in Cairo and announced an additional 1.2 million francs in aid through 2026. Switzerland has resettled about 380 refugees from Egypt, including 40 in October.
