SMA reduces refugee quota for 2026

Following the delay in the government’s announcement of the geographical priorities for resettlement for 2026, the SMA reduced its estimation to approximately 350 refugees to be resettled in the country before the end of 2026, compared to the initial 900 quota refugees.

The quota allocation will primarily include Congolese refugees in Uganda, as well as Afghan women and girls in Türkiye. Vulnerable groups, such as LGBTIQ people, women and girls will in general be prioritised.
