Meeting on lenghty international protection procedures and accomodation capacity

A meeting reuniting several Ministers, members of the Police, and the acting Director General of the Directorate for Migration and Administrative Internal Affairs was held to discuss the lengthy procedures in the field of international protection which also affect the occupancy of accommodation facilities. Special attention was paid to the cases of applicants whose procedures last more than two years.

It was greed that the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Care and Integration of Migrants will file a supervisory appeal with the Administrative Court of the Republic of Slovenia for each applicant who has been waiting for the completion of the procedure for more than two years, with the aim of speeding up procedures and resolving individual cases more efficiently.

It was also discussed during the meeting that there are persons who have stayed more than five years in the asylum home. It was specified that the reasons for this are related to lengthy procedures before the competent courts in Slovenia or to procedures arising from the Dublin Regulation.

The amendments to the Aliens Act and legislation related to the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum were also presented.

State Secretary Franc Kangler stated that it is imperative that all competent institutions take the necessary steps to speed up the procedures, and closed the meeting emphasizing the compromise between the parties that the longest procedures will be starting to be resolved as a priority.
