Following the entry into application of the Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1912, temporary protection for beneficiaries was extended automatically until 4 March 2028. However, as of 5 August 2026 onwards, temporary protection will only be granted to persons who fulfil their obligations related to military service in Ukraine or can prove that they have been authorised by the competent authority in Ukraine to leave the country.
The new Temporary Protection of Displaced Persons Act (ZZZRO-1) introduced an amendment whereby temporary protection cards no longer contain an indication of the period of validity. These cards are valid until the end of temporary protection, in accordance with decisions at EU level - currently until 4 March 2027 - and any future extension of temporary protection will be implemented only in the information systems, without re-issuing new cards. Cards without a specified period of validity are valid as proof of legal residence and status on the basis of which the person continues to be entitled to all the rights under the ZZZRO-1.
