In 2024, Romania received 2,467 asylum applications, with the majority submitted in Timisoara (1,346), Bucharest (797), and Giurgiu (108). The remaining applications were processed in other regional centers across the country.
The most common nationalities of the applicants were Syrian, Iraqi, and Nepali.
By the end of 2024, 166 individuals were being accommodated in Romania's six regional centers for applicants for international protection, with the centers operating at an occupancy rate of 15.1%.
