Latest number of applications and decisions on international protection in 2026
The General Inspectorate for Immigration (GII) announced that 147 applications for international protection were registered between 27 April 2026-7 July 2026, most of them submitted by citizens from Syria (41) followed by Ukraine (10). Also, 8 applications were registered from citizens from Sudan, Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq. The remainder were submitted by people from other countries.
In the same period, the authorities have positively resolved 57 applications: 28 providing subsidiary protection, 29 providing refugee status and 63 applications rejected.
By comparison, between 1 January 2026-26 April 2026, the volume of new applications was higher, with 237 applications registered (77 applications from nationals of Syria, 17 from Iran, 16 from Sudan, and the difference by applicants from other countries). In that period, 125 requests for protection were allowed (75 decisions to grant subsidiary protection, 50 refugee status and 89 applications rejected).
