As of 15 September 2026, Norway’s new regulations on support for returns and reintegration entered into force, replacing the 2020 regulations while largely maintaining the existing support measures. The new rules simplify and harmonise the scheme, including by aligning support rates and introducing foreign nationals covered by the European Reintegration Programme (EURP) as a separate target group. They also clarify that the obligation to leave applies to the entire Schengen and EU area and provide that decisions granting support generally lapse after six months if the return has not taken place. The regulations apply to all cases being processed by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) when they enter into force.
