Long term stable funding of the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA), which the agency has been advocating for, has been approved by the Senate. COA stated that this will allow the agency to move away from constantly scaling up and down locations, will reduce their dependency on expensive temporary emergency shelter, and allow them to work together with municipalities and partners towards stable and humane asylum reception. COA also highlighted that such stability would lead to increased peace of mind for residents. However, it emphasised the urgent need for additional reception locations within municipalities, noting that the national shortage has led to the COA implementing controlled access in Ter Apel since 20 May 2026 and therefore being unable to immediately offer shelter to all applicants.
