Annual anti-human trafficking conference calls for stronger partnerships to combat human trafficking

Malta’s Annual Anti-Human Trafficking Conference 2026 highlighted the need for stronger coordination and collaboration, with discussions focused on the prevention of exploitation, the early identification of victims and the need to provide them with protection, support and effective access to justice.

The Minister for Equality and Civil Rights, Rosianne Cutajar, said that Malta had completed the first monitoring and evaluation cycle of its National Strategy and Action Plan on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings 2024–2030. She announced that the government would propose amendments to the Criminal Code and the Victims of Crime Act to transpose Directive (EU) 2024/1712, including measures to address new forms of trafficking and strengthen victim identification, protection and coordination.

The Minister for Social Policy and the Family, Michael Falzon, reported that the Foundation for Social Welfare Services assisted 38 people between January-June 2026.
