ECRE interview with Passerell on the Pact implementation in Luxembourg

ECRE published an interview with the Luxembourg-based NGO Passerell on the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum and its implications for applicants.

Since the Pact entered into application on 12 June, Passerell has continued to observe barriers to accessing the asylum procedure in Luxembourg, including refusals to register applications. According to the NGO, authorities also deny unaccompanied minors access to the procedure unless they register as adults, undermining the specific safeguards to which children are entitled.

Looking ahead, Passerell raised concerns about increased detention, including of minors, more returns, deteriorating reception conditions and greater obstacles to appealing decisions due to shortened deadlines. Nevertheless, the organisation remains hopeful that civil society, refugee-led networks and the Ombudsman will help address these concerns and improve the implementation of the Pact in Luxembourg.
