The Finnish Immigration Service announced that, starting with July 2026, the decisions adopted on applications for international protection along with the appeal instructions will be notified to the applicant’s counsel, in Finnish or Swedish. The applicant will be notified only in case they have been granted international protection. When an applicant does not have a legal representative, they will receive the written decision and the appeal instructions in a language they understand.
The change will also apply to unaccompanied minors who, in case they do not have a counsel, will receive the outcome of the decision and the appeal instructions jointly with their legal representative, in a language they both understand.
