On 17 September 2026, the Minister of the Interior and his Ukrainian counterpart held a video conference to discuss cooperation between ministries, security, temporary protection, as well as police cooperation, including anti-drone protection and related modern technologies.
With regard to temporary protection, the two ministers discussed the pilot phase of the return programme to Ukraine, which is already being prepared at the EU level and Czechia is actively participating in it. The programme will require active cooperation of the Ukrainian government and institutions, including regional governments. The Czech Ministry of the Interior will also link this programme with voluntary return activities, which have been running for 2 years.
At the same time, restrictions on temporary protection for new arrivals have been applied since 5 August 2026. Persons who cannot prove that they have fulfilled their military obligations are not granted temporary protection.
