Ministry of Justice and Public Order organises workshop to strengthen the fight against human trafficking

The workshop focused on the need to strengthen legislation, more effective action by the competent services and the timely identification and protection of victims of trafficking in human beings (THB). During the conference, new forms of human trafficking were discussed, including sexual exploitation, forced labor and child exploitation, highlighting the additional challenges created by the use of internet by criminal networks.

It was furthermore emphasised the need of operation measures by the Police, targeted controls in high-risk areas, staff training and cooperation with European and international authorities.

The minister indicated that although Cyprus has significantly progressed to address THB, challenges remain, mainly in the timely identification of victims and their access to essential protection and support.
