On 11 June 2025, Italy's Ministry of the Interior and the Italian Episcopal Conference signed a protocol aimed at enhancing legal migration by promoting reception and inclusion initiatives for eligible migrants. The agreement, signed by Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, will encourage local cooperation between prefectures and church entities to support asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable foreign nationals. A permanent technical committee will also be established to coordinate and monitor efforts.
