The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) launched a call for tenders on the public procurement platform simap.ch for the operation of an external reporting office for the Federal Asylum Centres (FACs). The office, to be managed by an independent organisation, is expected to become operational in autumn 2026 and will enable both asylum applicants and staff to report irregularities occurring in federal accommodation centres.
The creation of the external reporting office forms part of the further development of the reporting system in place within federal asylum facilities. Switzerland currently operates more than 30 accommodation sites, with a total of approximately 8,200 places. The selected operator will receive reports, advise affected individuals and, if necessary, refer cases to relevant specialist services or criminal prosecution authorities.
The tender follows a pilot project conducted between 2022-2024, during which reporting offices were established in two of the six SEM asylum regions. Most reports submitted during the pilot phase related to the operation of the federal accommodation centres, with a smaller number concerning alleged cases of violence or discrimination. Applications may be submitted until 27 February 2026.
